Students at Joseph Arthur Middle School in O'Fallon are expected to be able to return to their normal classrooms and activities in August.

Initially, the Illinois Department of Transportation anticipated to finish the construction in Cahokia Heights and Sauget by the end of July.

鈥淲ear Orange National Gun Violence Awareness鈥� held an event in East St. Louis this past weekend to bring light to the suffering of families in the aftermath of 鈥渟enseless鈥� killing.

Construction begins in early June, and students are set to start using the building in Spring 2026. The $5.5 million project will house welding and industrial electricity programming, plus forklift training.

The St. Clair County Board voted to sign a $2.49 million contract with Acoustic Technology, Inc. Systems at its Oct. 24, 2022, meeting. Installations started in March 2023.

The development comes four years after voters in Cahokia, Centreville and Alorton approved a referendum to merge the three cities into a single town called Cahokia Heights.

The crash happened July 2023 at the Silver Lake Rest Area off of Interstate 70 near Highland. The bus was en route from Indianapolis to St. Louis.

Five officers were injured in all, including two who were treated and released at a local hospital for wounds they received in a scuffle with alleged criminal. Three others officers were hit by gun fire.

An estimated 878 people live within a 1-mile radius of the 35-acre Veolia North America-Trade Waste Incineration facility in the Metro East. The closest residential areas are about half a mile southeast of the facility in Cahokia Heights.
